The most recent athlete to receive the “honor” of gracing the cover of John Madden Football is Vince Young. There were several things that went though my head when I heard who was going to be on the cover. The first thought was, “Vince Young?” He didn’t have that great of a season that would lead to him being on the cover. There isn’t a way in hell he isn’t going to fall victim to the curse. Then thinking about it some more I realized he was the offensive rookie of the year and he also has that Madden quality about him. By “Madden quality” I mean I can picture John broadcasting one of his games and drawing something up on the teleprompter and saying, “BOOM and that was a great play by Vince.” Vince just might have a chance to break the curse.
Then I read a few articles and I realized that it’s not about how well he performs on the field or having a Madden quality about him that will keep the jinx away. Injuries have been the main factor in the curse over the recent years. It has hit every quarterback that has been on the cover.
Vince Young has one good thing going for him and that is that he is a Tennessee Titan. The last Titan to be on the cover was Eddie George. He is the only player who didn’t get injured and his production on the field actually increased. Just maybe, maybe there is a Titan immunity to the Madden Jinx.
